Surge Protector

What is the data on your computer worth? The pictures, the
documents, heck the computer itself? Are these things worth say $20? I can hear
the collective gasp…”well of course it’s worth $20!!” Ok, so are you all using
a surge protector then? I don’t mean your basic power strip. I’m talking about
an actual surge protector such as the one in the picture above. Now I will
admit I don’t go to the lengths of using a UPS (uninterruptible power
supply) but I do use full-fledged surge protectors made specifically for
computers and other high end electronic equipment. Do you have any idea how
susceptible your pc is to power surges, brown outs, and plain old power
outages? It only takes a minor power surge to fry a delicate component inside
your pc. I’m not saying it will definitely happen but it can and for less than
$20, you could avoid the expense and heartache of losing your data and or
equipment. In fact the surge protector in the picture cost me only $17.99 at
Newegg.com. The basic rule is that all electronic equipment should be plugged
into a surge protector. In this blog I’m referring specifically to pc’s,
laptops, printers, routers and modems. However, TV’s, stereos, etc are also
candidates for surge protection. So do yourselves a favor and click on over to
Newegg.com or stop by your favorite store and pick up some piece of mind for
about $20.

Hi Karen - I have surge protectors on all of my computers (including laptops) and on my television equipments (at least on the one I would mind losing).  When the electricity goes out the noise is unbelievable with all the surge protectors and the CO detector beeping!

Funny, you should mention it.... I thought I did but then I looked down (to the floor) and lo and behold - no surge protector.  We are going to the store later, better put it on my list.  Thanks!
