My reward for doing errands

Going to town to do errands is definitely not my favorite activity, but yesterday I got a reward for making the trip.

I got to see this youngster - munching at the Willows right along side the road, just about a mile from town.

young moose in North Idaho

Not the best photo in the world - the truck was moving when I snapped the shutter. But I'm still glad I was able to capture him - or is it a her??

It always amazes me when this kind of wildlife appears in populated places - and I always feel priviliged to have gotten a glimpse of a moose, an elk, a bear, or even a coyote.

After being here my entire life, I'm still waiting to get to see a cougar or a wolf. And I'm a little jealous because even my children have gotten to see them!

Good morning, Marte....he's probably lost!!!  in our area, there's been so much new construction that the wild life has been moved to unfamiliar territory.....we see them in very congested places....

Barbara - I think he was OK. Right across the road there's about 5 acres of grassy and treed land between houses, and that fronts on the river. Then not far to the North is woods.

Two or three winters ago when we had really severe snow, several starving moose moved into town and started eating shrubs, etc. in people's yards. One friend of mine had to get his dog loose after he tangled his rope around a moose's leg right at their front door... luckily no one got hurt.

Judy - Don't know how beautiful he is, but moose are definitely interesting looking creatures.

Carla - It always makes me feel like I've been given a gift... except when its these darned turkeys who want to come and leave their droppings all over the yard!

I would love the opportunity to see more "exotic" wildlife like this.  The most exotic I've seen is a wild turkey.

Marte, that would be quite a delight to be able to snap a photo of wildlife!     I have seen a raccoon and a fox lately another with deer.    In the City, we don't get much large wildlife as you have captured!

Chris Ann - Want to see more of them? Come on over! My neighbor's wife started feeding them, and it didn't take long to have a flock of about 60 turkeys in their yard. They've gotten so brave that some will hop up on the 4-wheeler if the food isn't coming fast enough! And... they leave their droppings everywhere!

Joan - You're one up on me. Even though I've been in the country my entire life, I have yet to see a fox. I hadn't seen a raccoon until last year when my neighbor came roaring into the yard hollering for me to hop on his 4-wheeler. He had spotted 3 baby raccoons up in a tree and wanted me to see them. They were adorable... peeking out at us from behind the trunk.
