iPhone4 vs Motorola Droid Technology Exchange at new PERLA Taqueria in Buckhead Atlanta GA
Mid-day lunch break turns into an iPhone4 vs Motorola Droid Technology Exchange at new PERLA Taqueria in Buckhead Atlanta GA. PERLA Taqueria (open since January '11) sits at the corner of Piedmont Road and Piedmont Circle, close to I-85 - a traffic light present for easy in-and-out. (PERLA Taqueria even offers a drive-thru if you're hungry and cannot come in to enjoy your food in the colorful, comfortable dining room.)
If you lived in Peachtree Park or Piedmont Heights or Morningside, you would be so close to this good food! ODAT Realty is ready to show you many fine homes there or in Garden Hills or Peachtree Hills - whenever you are ready! Meanwhile - back to our lunch adventure ...
A long-time client, Sam, and I go to lunch every two weeks or so. I try to find a new restaurant every time but even in foodie Atlanta - it is a challenge. For well over a decade, ODAT managed a rental home for Sam and his wife, Mary. Located in the Morris Brandon Elementary School district and near Memorial Park, the home attracted many fine families over the years.
Sam had designed and built the home for his family. He and his wife raised their daughter in the wonderful house and then she and her husband raised their three children in her childhood home. Eventually, Sam designed a new home for his daughter which she and her husband built near-by and the first house became a rental. And that is how I met Sam - asking about his FRBO!
Well, back to today. The new restaurant choice was a huge success. Our lunches were delicious. The young man at the table next to us, Salem, talked to us about the freshness of the food. In fact, he told us he ate lunch there almost every day! The next thing you know, Sam, age 93, and Salem, age 30, were deep into a discussion of the merits of the iPhone4! Salem showed Sam all the iPhone4 wonders - photos - videos - email content.
As he talked about his grandfather who is 92 years old, Salem explained that he uses the iPhone4 to record his grandfather's stories about their family history. Salem said he likes hearing the "expertise" of older men as a guide for his life. "I know my grandfather will enjoy hearing about our meeting today," he said. Sam, fascinated and astounded by all things the iPhone4 could do, asked if there were other phones like the iPhone4?
That was the only opening I needed to take out my Motorola Droid! I CONFESS -- I am a DROID-Y! I love my non-"i" connection to everything Google - contacts and calendar and more! Droid is like a complete office in my hand - computer and all! With the Motorola DROID, no matter where we are, ODAT Realty can verify housing data whenever a Client has a question!
I really enjoyed watching Sam discussing the technology. There we sat, deep in an iPhone4 vs Motorola Droid Technology Exchange in PERLA Taqueria in Buckhead Atlanta GA. Three people from three different generations and three different backgrounds: all enjoying a technology discussion in a new restaurant serving delicious Mexican food, created by Chef Enrique Valencia.
Sam, born in Georgia, graduated Georgia Tech in 1938 having completed his degree in mechanical engineering. After working for several different companies, he started his own commercial HVAC company in 1955. His wife, Mary, ran the office as the two of them grew the business together. The minute Sam secured a big contract downtown, he hired his brother Dan away from another company to do the installation and work with him! Soon brother Jim joined them as well.
"I'm partially retired now," Sam explains. "I only come to work four days a week. Dan's sons really run the company now." He continues, "I have my work that I do at the office, checking drawings, reviewing materials lists for billing and a couple other things. My nephews, Blanding and Thom, own the business now."
And second, Salem, born in Kuwait, at the stage in his life where Sam was in 1955 - building up his company to provide for his family and his future. " I run an import business and am involved in other business, too, " he explained. "Atlanta is a great place to live and work."
And then me - happily relocated to Atlanta since 1968 - and enjoying using the Motorola Droid to run my boutique Real Estate firm - ODAT Realty Services, Inc. where "Real estate is our product but SERVICE is our business."
Yet another international touch: PERLA Taqueria's owner is a UGA graduate, a "Tunisian-American citizen" as he calls himself. After working for many years in the Hospitality industry - including internships and on a cruise ship - Chakib decided to take the plunge and open his own place. He has good reason to be proud of the variety of special foods - including the "PERLA fries" hot and sauced when they arrive to the table.
PERLA Taqueria awaits you - go and enjoy the food. If you see Sam or Salem there - be sure to say hello! (Our next Buckhead Atlanta GA food experience will be la fourchette on Piedmont, almost at the corner of Peachtree, for an upscale Mediterranean meal.)
Happy eating to you and yours - and if you want to see any homes in the Buckhead area - ODAT Realty Services will be glad to take you around - first on the web and then in person! Call us - 404-939-2727.
Have a happy day -
Lynn
