Every year Indiana awards it's highest distinction to those elementary, middle and High Schools that meet the criteria in order to recive the Four Star Award given out by the Indiana Department of Education.
The basic standards for this award are that a school must meet adequate yearly progress goals established by the federal No Child Left Behind Act, be in the top 25% of all state schools in Math and English I-Step scores and in percentage of students passing both Math and English, meet minimum attendance requirements in the calendar year as a school.
This year market the first year private schools were considered for the award, although those schools were measured against other private schools not public schools.
And the Winners in Allen County for the 2009-10 school year by district are:
East Allen County schools: Cedarville elementary, Leo elementary
Fort Wayne community schools: Croninger elementary
Northwest Allen county schools: Hickory center elementary, Oak View elementary, Maple creek middle school, Carroll middle school and Carroll High school
Southwest Allen county schools: Aboite elementary, Whispering Meadows elementary, Woodside middle school, Summitt middle school
Private schools: Cantebury School
Congratulations! to this select group of schools. Out of a possible 1,808 Indiana public schools only 188 of those received the Four Star distinction.....13 of those from Allen County.
In the Private school category only 13 of a possible 261 Indiana schools received the Award with Cantebury School being the only one in Allen county to be awarded the Four Star Award
