Conference CenterThe City of Orange Beach may be one step closer to having its own civic center as City Council members unanimously passed a resolution giving Mayor Tony Kennon authority to negotiate a purchase and sale agreement for The Wharf Conference Center.

Construction of the current Conference Center began in 2008. It now includes 18,600 square feet of space and can accommodate a variety of events including large meetings, receptions for up to 2000 attendees, meal seating for 1,600 people, and exhibition space for 100 booths. As Mayor Kennon stated on Baldwin County Now.com, "We are looking at a civic center that hopefully would subsidize itself through the contractual leases that go with the purchase and with possible renting of the building throughout the year."

Comments on City of Orange Beach.com, indicate that the Orange Beach economy misses out on tens of thousands of room nights every year due to the fact that the city does not have adequate meeting space. It is hoped that a civic center will not only serve local residents and businesses, but will draw many visitors. These visitors will book accommodations, eat at restaurants, and shop in the Orange Beach area.

The City of Orange Beach will hold an Open House at the The Wharf Conference Center on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, from 1pm to 5pm. This is your opportunity to tour the Center, have your questions answered, and form your own thoughts on: Orange Beach - Future Owner of The Wharf Conference Center?
