When you “spring forward” and set your clocks ahead by an hour on Saturday night don’t forget to change your smoke detector battery.
Arlington firefighters say it’s the perfect time to put in fresh batteries to make sure your smoke detector is working. Smoke alarm batteries should be replaced at least once a year and daylight saving time is a good reminder to make the change.
It’s important to change the batteries because the most commonly cited cause of non-working smoke alarms are worn or missing batteries. And smoke alarms nearly cut in half the risk of dying in a home fire.
And, while you’re at it, you might as well also replace the batteries in your Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarm.
It’s important to protect yourself and your home. Because if your home burns down … how am I going to help you sell it? Get more information from the Consumer Product Safety Commission about smoke detectors.
