It's Fiesta Time in San Antonio, TX

Beginning April 7, 2011, it will be Fiesta time again in San Antonio, TX. There are over 100 different events planned by different non-profit organizations that last for a 10 day period, ending on April 17, 2011. It's Spring Time, and it's Bigger than Mardi Gras!!

It's springtime in San Antonio, and it's time for parades, parties, runs and so much more when you check that schedule for over 100 events. The Texas Cavaliers Night River Parade has become very popular and is certainly one of the largest parades on the river in the country. Of course, the Battle of Flowers Parade, the granddaddy of them all, is on Friday afternoons, and is one my favorites. You will certainly not want to miss the final parade on Saturday night, the Fiesta Flambeau.

Fiesta San Antonio was previously called Fiesta San Jacinto. It evolved from the 1891 flower parade conceived by Ellen Maury Slayden, wife of Congressman James L. Slayden, as an April 21 salute to the heroes of the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. With the arrival of fair weather, participants in carriages pelted one another with flowers as they rounded Alamo Plaza. A group of San Antonio women then formed the Battle of Flowers Association. By 1895 an elaborate week-long celebration surrounded the Battle of Flowers Parade and the event, which we enjoy today, was born. More information on the colorful history of Fiesta Week can be found in the Texas State Historical handbook.  Also, learn more about today's civic and patriotic Battle of the Flowers Association.

Fiesta San Antoniois the biggest party and the greatest community event in the whole state of Texas. Enjoy all the parades, carnivals, games, rides, parties, Night in Old San Antonio(NIOSA), art exhibits, and many more fun packed events. See All Events for Fiesta San Antonio.

Where to Buy Your Ticket.

For ticket information on the different parades and other events see Fiesta San Antonio.  You can "rent" a chair for $8 along the parade routes. Tickets for many Fiesta events will be on sale starting March 28 at the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, 2611 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78215-1022. Call (210) 227-5191 or toll-free (877) 723 4378 for information.

Come and Visit Fiesta San Antonio next month. There are only 27 days left, so plan ahead, and come to San Antonio to enjoy one of the oldest and most historic celebrations in the country.

Yes, Bliz. This is our most popular event of the year since it draws the largest crowds. We get a lot of visitors for this Spring Festival. It's a fun time for the whole family.

Hi Belinda, You can order you tickets for the Oyster Bake, the parades, or Night in Old San Antonio(NIOSA) from one of those links in my post for ticket information.

I'm Cathy. Agent Cathy.

Miss it so much! I used to help out in the Tacos del Carbon booth at NIOSA in the 80s...

Hi Cathy. NIOSA has certainly grown since the 80's. There are very large crowds there every year.  Even the Oyster Bake at St. Mary's has increased in volume too. I am glad I met a former San Antonian and alumni too.
