Northstar Skiing(Slide Show has 7 images)

Sacramento is well known for over 20 museums and attractions, as evidenced by clicking here.  However, after living here all my life, I also have learned to expand my horizons and be either at the beaches of the Pacific Ocean, the Wine Country of Napa-Sonoma, California Gold Country, or the beautiful Sierra Nevada.  All are within an 90 minute drive of my Greater Sacramento home.

The winter snows this season have created extraordinary conditions for those who love to ski.  Among the ski resorts near or at Lake Tahoe, you will find Northstar, a first rate skiing village with fantastic slopes, accommodations, dining, and shopping.  And there are the views - unbelievable views!

Yesterday, I blogged about Mikuni's, Sushi restaurants, which will be holding "Get Lucky at Mc Cooney's" St. Patrick's Celebrations at all their Greater Sacramento locations.  In addition their celebration will include their Mikuni's @ NorthStar-Lake Tahoe.  So for those of you skiing in green this week, you won't need to miss out.

NorthStar, also has an ice rink cradled in the middle of the village.  The rink is lined at the edge with "cabanas" equipped with fire pits, comfortable chairs, and coffee and drink bar nearby.  Starbucks, is only a few feet from Mikuni's.

Note the guy with no tee-shirt on - Yes there are days when it is that warm!

That's me doing what I like to do best!  Feet up in front of the fire pit, letting warm rays warm me.  I'm not a skier - I'm an "after-ski" skier.

Awesome pictures. I love a bright day on the slopes and WISH it were only 90 mins from my home.

Myrl, I never thought of Sacramento being that close to a ski slope.  When we lived in Colorado it was easy to get up to the slopes but not so here in Texas.

Ellie - I often feel really lucky to be cradled in the Sacramento Valley, with the ocean 90 minutes west, and the Sierra Nevads 90 minutes to the east.

Marchel - There are numerous ski areas relatively close to Sacramento - Squaw Valley, Tahoe Donner, Soda Springs, Sierra Ski Ranch, NorthStar, Kirkwood, Heavenly, just to name a few.  All are within 100 miles.

Hi Myrl, Love the photos. You tell such great stories in them. Of course the one I love best shows you all decked out and basking in your apres ski moment at Northstar. Treasures all!

William - There is nothing more glorious than to be in one of those lounge chairs out in the sun, with feet up and being warmed by the fire. . .What's not to love!

Dee - There really is a lot to do year round.  Although this winter, I must admit there were times when I experienced a little cabin fever.

Myrl - I love to ski and go at least once a week. This looks like a beautiful ski area and there's nothing like March sking - you can do it in a t-shirt.

Very nice. My wife's parents live near Snowshoe Mountain in WV. Ski slopes are beautiful but also, very cold.

Kristine - I was an avid skier in my younger years.  I have a daughter, with her family, that ski now on a regular basis.  I'm content with the "after-ski" life. . .:-)

Rich - You're right, they can be very cold, and deceiving.  For example, in the picture where I'm laying back catching rays, with my feet up.  You should have seen my face when I took my sunglasses off. . .I looked like a raccoon:-)

Patricia - It is a strange thing that during most years that I have lived in Sacramento, I took what it had to offer for granted.  It has been the blossoming interest in photoblogging, that made me really take stock of what we had in close range, that was of great interest.  It's been a journey of discovery.

Myrl, I didn't realize that Sacramento was so centralized, I knew that it was close to the Sierra Nevadas, just not Napa and the rest.  Guess we should try harder to get there!
