Some Habits Can't Be Broken

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty - Atlantic Shore

All is right in my corner of the world!

I'm a creature of habit, I think we all are.

computer sxc-Vangelis Thomaidis I've developed some good habits over the last few months; blogging regularly, keeping my schedule up to date and exercising.

I also tried to jump into the Internet age and canceled my subscription to the daily paper.  I figured I'd 'read all about it' on line.

I had several reasons to cancel; the paper I subscribed to didn't adequately cover southern Ocean County news and daily delivery had gotten sketchy.  And I thought I'd save $25. a month.

newspaper sxc-Willie Cloete That month long trial ended this week...I couldn't do it!  My mornings need coffee and the daily paper.  I don't feel ready for the day unless I've read the paper.  I don't want to scroll through the news, I've got to have the paper in my hands, ink on my fingers and current events in my head.

I subscribed this week to the Press of Atlantic City, and all is right in my corner of the world this morning!

Laura, I love this!  First, congratulations for trying!  Second, congratulations for going back to something that adds a high light to your day.   I understand completely as some of our habits are not meant to do anything but comfort us and add joy to our day.  I have to admit that I love books, like the feel of them and holding them in my hand.  I read some on my computer but when I really want to enjoy a read I go to my beloved books.

Media of all kinds seems to work for me.

Still like the physical paper , holding something in your hands... and having it all there.

All the best with your challenge, I am still working on mine.

cheers

Nor

Gita-There just something about having the newspaper in your hands!

Joanna-I'm up before the paper delivery, so I'm actually online first!

Michael-I understand that!  My area has two semi local papers, none have made an editorial blunder like that!  But if they did, I'd get used to doing without too!

Barbara-I haven't tried books on the computer (or other devices).  When I was commuting I used to like books on tape...I love the feel of books too!

Laura - it's true, some habits can't and shouldn't be broken - at least you tried, and you are trying something different - that's a step in the right direction!

Print paper hopefully doesn't go away, the smell of the paper and texture I think is a must when reading the news in the morning.  Unfortunatly times are changing and I'm afraid the days of the tablets are going to take over.

I prefer to read my news online, but know many folks who would just "Look Funny" drinking their coffee without a paper in their hands.  I do however, Love to have a book in my hands...It just seems better that way.  Congrats on all of your wonderful new habits...Not all habits are meant to be broken, but at least you tried!

I start my day with online news and weather, and cleaning out my email of the stuff that's easy to get out of the way.  My newspapers pile up.  Maybe I should cancel.....

The morning paper, hot fresh black coffee, cats munching and kids in bed, sun coming up and XM tunes in background... time for the paper, reading REALTOR or other trade magazines. It is a habbit.

I did the same thing and missed my morning paper so much, needless to say I got my subscription back. For me reading the paper in the morning with a cup of coffee is the ultimate way to start the day.

There's something about the Sunday paper and a cup of coffee that the internet just can't replace. I'm with you on this one Laura!

Laura - for the most part we are all "creatures of habit." I too squeeze a workout in each day, but I have managed to give up my newspaper for the online version. I got tired of all the black ink on my hands and I have enough with recycling plastic, glass and cardboard - something had to go!

Patrrick-maybe it is the layout...hmmm.

Donna-Kind of like the clam before the storm!!

William-I haven't read magazines in awhile, except at the Dr. office!

Craig-It's heaven!

Kristine-Just couldn't get used to it!

Laura - I thought I was going to need a 12 step rehabilitation program when I first considered cancelling my newspaper.  And it was touch and go for the first few weeks after I did so.  But now I don't miss it at all.  The news is everywhere, on the television, on the interent, from the gossiping neighbor next door:-)

Ink on the fingers, can't replace that Laura.  I read the news on my IPHONE each morning, but I think I need to go to the IPAd because the print is getting too small!

Laura, that's exactly the way about books...just like the feel and smell of them.  I think the new Kindel's...the electronic books are cool, but I guess I'm an old dog and set in my ways.  I'm all for the new gadgets, but still like the old books and newspapers.
