Can't Sleep so I thought I would write what's on my mind!

I always wanted to be someone, not just exist as a person.  Well, I became a Realtor and thought this is a way I can help people.  OK yes I thought I could also earn a good living as well.   Turns out I am not making such a good living in this market but I am trying to help people.  The problem is I find myself helping people out of their homes more and more instead of helping people achieve homeownership!

Everytime I go on a listing presentation, which I know is going to be a Short Sale, I am touched by the stories of why they can no longer afford their home.  It's not easy to hear about families hope and dreams being flushed down the toilet because they are being told in order to sell your home you will have to do a Short Sale because your home in now worth half of what you paid for it.

On the other hand it is very rewarding when I can help people alleviate some of that sadness and frustration.  One of my clients wrote "Thank you so much for coming by my house today.  I have been lost and spent the last year wondering what to do.  When you came along I felt like I finally had an advocate on my side"  Can't tell you how much that letter meant to me!

I met a family the other day which I'm not sure if I am going to be able to help.  See earlier Blog asking fellow agents advice.  But I assure you I will do whatever I can regardless of whether I get the listing or NOT!

It seems to me that Homeowner's had help getting into this situation and my plan is to see if I can help them at least move on with their lives.  I rally for Financial Institutions and fellow Real Estate Agents to climb on board with me!!

Some folks lived too high on the hog, were not so great at impulse spending control and desired to be a "somebody" not just a person that got them in a pickle. Cost of living too high in an area, not space or land around you, crime increasing, time to migrate, relocate. You are making enough to survive and the reward is being a Dr Phil to get these other folks back on track. Learning something that rubs off on you and helps your life by comparison.

Good morning Karen. Not sure I could handle all of the sadness in hearing about them losing their dreams. I have held firm to not listing any foreclosures or short sales and so far it has worked but my heart goes out to you for helping those people as they need it most. Have a great day.

Andrew, you are so right!  I have worked with families who purchased their home and put a lot down, did some improvements and never took money out of the home.  These are the people my heart goes out to.  And yes I am making enough to survive and for that I am greatful.  I belive this had to happen because of what you said, things got way out of control!

Randy, I am glad to hear you are doing well on traditional sales!!

Wow, there is a lot of this stuff going around.  Nobody has any money.  Everybody has a sad story.  We should all thank God that we are not in Japan.  Those people will too be starting over, but thru no fault of their own.  Living in central Indiana, with its flat boring ground, cold winters, short sales, etc. makes me realize how truly Blessed I am.
