Big East Basketball Has it's Home In Storrs Connecticut

The UConn women did it last weekend, they won the Big East Women's Tournament title after winning the regular conference title. Nothing new there they've done it 17 times.

Last night in New York City, at The garden, the most famous area in the world, the Connecticut Men's Basketball team set multiple records in winning the Big East Men's Tournament title.

  • Record setting because they did the never before done feat of winning 5 games in five nights. Not even the millionaires called the NBA play 5 games in 5 nights, never mind win them all.
  • They beat 4 nationally ranked teams to get there.
  • The did it with freshmen and sophomores, and of course 1 junior
  • That 1 junior, Kemba Walker, a prime candidate, for National Player of the Year, who is also on track to complete his degree requirements in the spring.
  • They did it with a Hall of fame Coach and a top rated coaching staff.

UConn is the only Div 1 basketball program who's teams have won Conference Titles in the same year, several times.

UConn is the only Div 1 program who's teams both won National Titles in the same year, 2004.

Tonight and tomorrow, are the selection shows for both tournaments seating.

It's highly improbable that both teams will again repeat that double championship season, after all the UConn men are not that good this year, and the UCopnn women are also not as strong this year.

That's what was said at the beginning of this basketball season, and look what happened.

It is often said that history repeats itself, could that possibly happen again?

There have been some great games so far during the conference tournaments. I hope the NCAA Championship games continue along those lines. I love the college hoops championship tournament! These kids come to play.

Ed, March should be entertaining for Connecticut.  The girls always play tough, the big question will be if the guys can stay focused throughout the tournament.

Michael, they were hard fought games, probably tougher than anything any of those teams will see in the NCAA tournament

Craig, the NCAA could be ho hum judging from the teams that were selected. Ohio State seems to be the favorite.

Wanda on this weekend it was definitely their show.

Andrew, this is true it helps to define a character

George, it will be an interesting month and very entertaining.

Ed,

I had season tickets to Men and Women's basketball for years until last year.  We caught a few women's games and one men's game this year and really enjoyed it.  i don't think that either team has all the ingredients to win a national championship but I also would not be surprised if they did.
