The past week offered a huge pay it forward moment to help Japanese people recover from an 8.9 earthquake followed by an even more powerful tsunami. It does not matter how you choose to help, what matters is we all do a little something.
I felt the earth move under my feet and watched the water slosh to and fro in my pool in 1989 when as a new resident of California I received an early introduction to earthquake country. The Northridge Earthquake in 1994 was short but a real shaker of only 6 seconds, I cannot image a quake lasting five minutes as the 8.9 quake did in Japan.
Japan is much better prepared for "The Big One" than Los Angeles. I have an earthquake kit in my home and in my car, but silly me, I do not have one in the office. This week I'm going to assemble one as my pay it forward contribution to my team and any customers or clients that happened to be in my office if and when "The Big One" arrives.
