I consider myself to be a die hard sports fan and March has to be one of the best times of the year when it comes to sports. Yes, my favorite sport is Pro Football, hands down. And my favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles. But when it comes to a specific month, it's March. You have March Madness, probably one of the quickest growing events over the last decade. Talk about a frenzy... You also have Hockey winding down and baseball season around the corner. But again, it's all about March Madness for me. I look forward to this time of month every year.
For those that have been following college basketball over the years, and understand March Madness, should know that it hasn't been this wide open in years. Usually the day prior to Selection Sunday, which is at 6 pm tonight, the number 1 seeds are usually in place. I don't think so this year. I think there could be 2 to 3 teams as that 4th number 1 seed. And some of the league tournaments have been more exciting then ever before. I think the Big East tournament was one of the best in decades. Yes, there is a little bias here, because I am a Big East fan and because I am a die hard Louisville Cardinal fan and a West Virginia Mountaineer fan. How can I be two at the same time? Well, it is the Cardinals first, followed by WVU second. We moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 1980 and I lived there for 5 years while going to high school there. I then went into the Army after 1 semester in college. When I got out, I went to West Virginia University. So that is why for the pecking order.
In any case.... do you follow College Basketball? Get psyched for March Madness? Do you have a favorite? Can you think that you can pick the top three seeded teams for the four main areas before the selection committee does tonight at 6 pm on CBS? Let's have some fun here.. please include your list in the comments. If anything, just picking the top 4 number one seeds. Here are mine in order....
#1 Ohio St as the number 1 overall seed. But after watching Kansas beat Texas, I could move them here.
#1 Kansas - and maybe Kansas can be thought as the overall number 1... especially if Ohio St loses tomorrow
#1 Pitt
#1 Notre Dame
#2 Duke Duke might slide to a # 1 if they beat UNC... but even if they do, it would be close... so I still think they stay on this line
#2 SDSU
#2 UCONN
#2 Texas You could swap Texas and UNC now... or Depending on today's game with UNC & Duke, UNC could move to this slot and put Texas as a #3.
#3 UNC
#3 BYU
#3 Florida
#3 Louisville
If you want to follow some so-called experts that have their own brackets, you can find them here.
Joe Lunardi - Lunardi's brackets - This guy has been on fire in the last 3 years, only missing like 3 teams when seeding them in the last 3 years. But I don't totally agree with his update as of this morning. He moved Louisville from a #3 seed to a #4 seed after losing to UCONN. And moved Kentucky to a #3 with Florida. But wait, both of these teams play each other in the conference championship today. So if one loses, they go to #4 then? Just sound slike Joe is trying to cover his tracks. lol
Jerry Palm - Palm's brackets - I usually disagree with about 30% of his bracket every year and this year is no different. I just think he tries to be different, hoping that if he lands that perfect bracket, then he can be named king of the March Madness brackets.
See, Joe Lunardi is a sports writer for ESPN and actually coined the term bracketology. Jerry Palm is a CBS sports writer for CBS Sportsline.
So, who are your top four #1 seeds? Is your favorite team on the bubble? And will where you be at 6 pm EST time today? I will be glued to my tv... and with more follow up at 7 pm on ESPN and ESPN... it's a great day in sports... Have fun
