For those of you who like to take walks, there are many wonderful parks to explore in Arlington, Virginia. One of my favorite places to visit with my children, or take a walk with my dog is Gulf Branch Nature Center and Park.
The Gulf Branch Park is easy to miss when you drive on Military Road, so slow down and pay attention. The park is surrounded by residential neighborhoods, and not very visible from the main road. I discovered this park several years ago, while searching for fun activities for my children.
The Gulf Branch Nature Center provides variety of educational programs and exhibits for kids. Children's Discovery Room, live animal displays, gardens, restored log cabin, and the viewing pond belong to favorites among kids who visit this wonderful park. Kids are especially drawn to the hollowed-out log inside the center where they can pretend they are canoeing.
Among the programs offered in March, you will find Graduate Gemologists, Amphibians of Arlington, Family Fishing Workshop, and Wild Ones: Salamander Search. For complete list of programs, please click here. Enjoy your visit to this beautiful park. While there, observe your surroundings - you may spot a deer or two, watching you from behind the trees.
