This is the kind of email you must not respond to if you are advertising real estate or any products. Though it is so obvious, some people still fall in the trap and accept checks for more than the items' cost.
I received the scam email below from a "James Smith"as a response to my ad on Craigslist selling furniture I no longer need. My spam filter sent the email to the Junk Mail Folder, but I saw it on my phone.
"I appreciate your prompt response towards my enquiries and am pleased with the asking price for this items. I'll be making payment for this item via check, so you'll need to provide me with details in which the check can be mailout to. Details should include: your full name, visible home or office address where you can easily recieve package via courier service and phone #.
N:B Am responsible for the pickup arrangement, thereby i'll be sending you an excess payment which will cover the shipping cost but all required of you after recieving the payment is to deduct the amount for the item then you send the remaining balance to the mover via westernunion money transfer/moneygramm in cash, then they come for the pickup there after. Let me know if you're satisfied with this arrangement. if you're, i will implore you to take off the ads on craigslist and consider we have a deal on. Regards"
I reported this scammer to Craigslist and I hope he gets caught.
If you experience any scams share it with the public. You will be helping others avoid the rip off scammers. I know it is working, as I have received a number of thank you emails describing how my post helped them avoid being financially taken for a ride.
