Update: March 14, 2011
It seems that our local newspaper jumped ahead of itself again, 1st update - the Kailua Kona Pier has not been condemned Which is great news - but the cruise ship has already cancelled Wednesdays stop - thank you (shaking me head, back and forth) 2: King Kamehameha Hotel wont open for at least 3 months - I drove by yesterday, and they were WIDE open - maybe they meant 3 days. For a truly newsworthy update please follow this link to the - San Francisco Gate - online newspaper. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/hawaii/detail?entry_id=84890
Its seems that of all the areas in Hawaii, that were hit by the Tsunami, West Hawaii - including Kailua Kona, Keauhou, Kealakekua, and Hualalai Resort area, seem to have taken the brunt of it all. First of all our prayers go out to Japan - they by far took the hardest hit - in fact our damages aren’t even worth mentioning in the scope of what Japan has seen, a moment of silence for them please. But we have a lot friends, family, and tourist on the mainland that want to know how there favorite little piece of Hawaii is. I took a few of these photos, but most were shared on Facebook - it was amazing how Facebook saved the day on communication during the crisis and shortly after. AT&T, Verizon and most major carriers went completely dead - nothing, not even a - no service - would show up on our phones - so many of communicated through Facebook. Thank you to all that posted and shared. This is how Alii Drive - Sea Photo 1: Wall - looks on a normal day
Photo 2:Here it is about 6 hours after the Tsunami hit - waves were up, and abnormal for about 24 hours, you can only imagine what they were like at 3:45am
