Suprise More Than 56,000 homes Are Vacant

By

I was surprised again by a new statistic, more than 56,000 Orange County homes are vacant.  That is a 64 percent increase in a 10 year period.  The U.S. Census calculated that in 2010 a massive increase in vacant homes in a report released on Tuesday.

That is a very high figure.  That would mean that one in 19 homes is vacant.  If you would like some statistics to compare the informant ion to here it is.  One home in 28 was vacant in the year 2000.  Although the reason for a vacant home is not discussed.  Many are due to a home in distress.

Another interesting fact is that Laguna Beach has the highest proportion of vacant homes when comparied to other cities with 16.3 percent.  Anaheim had the highest number of vacant homes at 5943.  Newport Beach was the second highest with 5442 vacant homes.

Tim, a sad commentary on the state of this country's precarious financial position. Wonder where we go from here?

WOW!  We don't have 50,000 people in McCurtain County, let alone homes... Sounds like there should be some good buys in Orange County.

Tim, what an incredible number! In my area, that would mean all the homes are vacant....there are approx. 5,000 people in Lewisburg.

Tim, that's a shockingly high number of vacant homes. Does Laguna Beach have a high number of second homes that might account for some of their 16.3 percent? I'd love to know what the numbers are for San Mateo County.

It is almost unbelievable when you consider what that means to the people here.
