Ever Thought of Taking up Watercolor Painting?

Have you ever thought of taking up watercolor painting? A few years ago I took some lessons to learn how to spend my spare time creating works of art. The lessons were a little on the expensive side, but I thought at the time that it was money well spent. After all, I was doing something creative that for many years I have wanted to do, but never could find the time.

I tried my hand at landscape watercolor painting and actually had one of my four grown-up children asking for some of my paintings. I didn't think they were that good, so I said to wait until I could produce better works of art. Soon after, I stopped the lessons and stopped painting. I still have all my "works of art" in my possession.

I found painting both enjoyable and frustrating at the same time. I enjoyed the creativity part, but was frustrated that I couldn't paint as well as I would have liked to after only six lessons.  I guess my expectations were too high. I haven't painted for over three years, but feel that if I went back to it, I could do better. So of late, I have a renewed interest in watercolor painting.

Today I was searching through YouTube and thought, "I wonder if there are any free watercolor lesson videos." Sure enough, there are quite a few. I have picked out a 9 minute video produced by English artist, Steven Cronin for you to view, if interested. This lesson quickly demonstrates how to paint a landscape scene of Loch Eriboll in Scotland--Part 1. If you like this video, then move on to Part 2 to see the painting being completed.

Watching someone paint in watercolors captivates my interest. I hope I can become an artist such that all of my children want to hang my paintings.

Hi Ted,

I have tried but I am not very good at watercolor.  It really makes me appreciate the artistic talent some people possess.

I've always loved watercolors too, Ted.  I think you should post pics of your OWN creations!  I'd love to see them!  :-)

Loper Team, yes I could watch a good artist for hours.

Karen, Hmmm.... I've got to hunt for them, but a good idea. I'll let you know if I post them.

Glad to hear that Ted!  Your own talents would make for a great blog article me thinks!  I'd be especially anxious to see if your beautiful Tessa was featured in one of your works.

Best~

Ted, I've been pretty much a frustrated artist most of my life...I used to draw and paint quite a bit years ago...don't seem to have the time for it now.  Watched the video...thanks.

Ted--I too would like to see some of your own creations!  Wish I had talent in this area.  It would be wonderful to create beauty for others to enjoy.  Thanks too for the YouTube tip.  I had no idea lessons could be found there!!

I'm not talented but think painting would be an excellent way to relax.  I think I might find it frustrating...I want photos of your creations!
