Today's televisions are bigger and account for 10 percent of a homes energy bill.
Here are a few tips to help reduce your energy use.
- Turn off the TV when not actually watching the unit- many people use the device for back ground noise; Also when watching television turn off your lamps and overhead lights.
- Plug the television, game systems, recorders and other devices into a power strip. Turn the strip off when not using the television thereby turning off all additional units attached to the television.
- Turn off the "quick start" option on the TV
- Turn down the backlight on LCD TVs, it will reduce the energy used.
The energy a TV uses depends its technology type, screen size and brightness. The bigger the TV the more energy it uses.
LED & LCD TVs are more efficient than Plasma models; but there are Energy Star Plasma TVs available.
