There are four high schools in the Highlands Ranch / Lone Tree / Castle Pines North / Castle Pines area of the Douglas County School District and and all 4 of them are in Highlands Ranch. Sometimes the school is an important criteria for a Denver relocation client when choosing a neighborhood or home.
Colorado is an open enrollment state, but some schools are at or near capacity, and living within the school's geographic boundaries can sometimes be the only or best way to be certain of enrollment.
Rock Canyon High School in the Douglas County School District is the newest of these 4 high schools in Highlands Ranch. While its address is in Highlands Ranch, many of its enrollment boundaries fall in Lone Tree and Castle Pines North, very little is actually in Highlands Ranch. Since Rock Canyon is still quite new, it is still growing and open enrollment should not be an issue for some time still.
