I have no photos to share, just word pictures that began early this morning. While pulling out of my driveway, I looked up in the sky, and there, not far from my eyes, was a large and graceful hawk that hovered over my car. Immediately I felt an attachment to the bird that was soaring like a kite in the sky, but the bird was real, and it gave me a sense of being emotionally free. This was a beautiful thing to see as I saw it spread its impressive wings while it soared almost effortlessly.
I turned the corner, making a right turn, then a left when I saw it again, the hawk, making slow circles, sweeping overhead, just ahead of me. Oddly enough, I had my camera but some moments like this make you not want to take your eyes off the road, for if you do, you know you will have regrets. Have you had moments like this? Do you find that there are days that stand out with a feeling of being close to a power higher than you ever imagined? Could it be the hawk's watchful eyes were upon me?
This may sound crazy but as I approached the stop sign, I thought to myself, "Red means Stop!" Ironically, I had just posted on my Blog, earlier this morning, a photo of a large, red tulip and I called it, "Speechless Sunday - Red Means Stop. I was thinking about my Blog. I was really looking for signs of spring, flowers, the buds on the tree, and things like that, when all of a sudden a pair of hawks caught my eye. I couldn't move. I did not dare. I was on my way to Church, but in that one moment my heart was aglow, filled with contentment. It was as if, I was ALREADY there and I didn't have to drive any further.
My strength comes from moments like this, the sight of a bird, the wind on my face, the energy from a new bud that just bloomed, a fresh blade of grass, butterflies, dragonflies, the sun in the sky, the moon, the stars, even spring showers - gosh, we need the rain.
I thought about those hawks throughout the day. It was as if I could imagine that it was their wings that spread around my shoulders and they kept me light on my feet. The day seemed to fly by....
"The natural function of the wing is to soar upwards and carry that which is heavy up to the place where dwells the race of gods. More than any other thing that pertains to the body it partakes of the nature of the divine."--- Plato, Phaedrus
I drove from Flower Mound to Grapevine, on to Mesquite, then Heartland, Garland, Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Lewisville and finally back home, late this evening to Flower Mound. Through all my travels today I found joy. The clients I met with were also happy. I do believe that we shared the journey of happy trails as we went about our business, looking at houses, negotiating contracts, and signing papers that were the direct result of expressing spontaneity, trust and faith.
What was my "ah ha" moment today? Be on the lookout, be like a hawk, watch out for opportunities, stay calm, although you may have to circle around, use your resources and time wisely.
