A Lesson From the Hawks

March 13, 2011

I have no photos to share, just word pictures that began early this morning. While pulling out of my driveway, I looked up in the sky, and there, not far from my eyes, was a large and graceful hawk that hovered over my car. Immediately I felt an attachment to the bird that was soaring like a kite in the sky, but the bird was real, and it gave me a sense of being emotionally free. This was a beautiful thing to see as I saw it spread its impressive wings while it soared almost effortlessly.

I turned the corner, making a right turn, then a left when I saw it again, the hawk, making slow circles, sweeping overhead, just ahead of me. Oddly enough, I had my camera but some moments like this make you not want to take your eyes off the road, for if you do, you know you will have regrets. Have you had moments like this? Do you find that there are days that stand out with a feeling of being close to a power higher than you ever imagined? Could it be the hawk's watchful eyes were upon me?

This may sound crazy but as I approached the stop sign, I thought to myself, "Red means Stop!" Ironically, I had just posted on my Blog, earlier this morning, a photo of a large, red tulip and I called it, "Speechless Sunday - Red Means Stop. I was thinking about my Blog. I was really looking for signs of spring, flowers, the buds on the tree, and things like that, when all of a sudden a pair of hawks caught my eye. I couldn't move. I did not dare. I was on my way to Church, but in that one moment my heart was aglow, filled with contentment. It was as if, I was ALREADY there and I didn't have to drive any further.

My strength comes from moments like this, the sight of a bird, the wind on my face, the energy from a new bud that just bloomed, a fresh blade of grass, butterflies, dragonflies, the sun in the sky, the moon, the stars, even spring showers - gosh, we need the rain.

I thought about those hawks throughout the day. It was as if I could imagine that it was their wings that spread around my shoulders and they kept me light on my feet. The day seemed to fly by....

"The natural function of the wing is to soar upwards and carry that which is heavy up to the place where dwells the race of gods. More than any other thing that pertains to the body it partakes of the nature of the divine."--- Plato, Phaedrus

I drove from Flower Mound to Grapevine, on to Mesquite, then Heartland, Garland, Dallas, Plano, Frisco, Lewisville and finally back home, late this evening to Flower Mound.  Through all my travels today I found joy. The clients I met with were also happy. I do believe that we shared the journey of happy trails as we went about our business, looking at houses, negotiating contracts, and signing papers that were the direct result of expressing spontaneity, trust and faith.

What was my "ah ha" moment today? Be on the lookout, be like a hawk, watch out for opportunities, stay calm, although you may have to circle around, use your resources and time wisely.

Rob,

I would imagine a hawk means different things to different people, depending on your life experiences. I grew up in the city and made the choice to live in the country after I left home, but I never had to work a farm land. So I would imagine, hawks on a farm mean something completely different.

Here in Flower Mound, it's urban life again... Every now and then, I get a gentle reminder about who I am and I guess, yesterday's hawks gave me answers.

Yes! I'm putting on a lot of mileage and it's always more rewarding when I get results. I wish good results for you too.

Judy,

Thank you for the positive feedback. To be honest, I hesitated whether or not I should send submit... I didn't want people to think I was weird.

You've just given me added reassurance to keep doing what I'm doing on my Blog. It's people like you who lift me up! I wish you cherished blessings.

Patricia- what a nice day.  And ironic that I saw a pair of hawks when I went out my drive to walk my dogs one day last week.  I actually was really dumb because I was walking down the edge of the road not paying attention to traffic or  my dogs because I was looking up at the hawks.

Tammy,

That's a cool coincidence; however, I don't think we should be walking down the same road or driving in the same car together (LOL)!

I'm so glad to know that there is someone out there in GA who is like me in TX! Maybe those hawks are reincarnated people from our past who are looking out for us... (LOL x s)!

Have a wonderful day!

Patricia,

Sometimes I just sit for a few moments outside and soak up what I see.  God is truly an artist and we see His work everywhere.  It is such a freeing moment..  I have watched birds and tried to imagine what it would feel like to be them for a while anyway..

Lovely post.

I hope you experience the "ah ha" moment today while working with some home buyer clients.

Some FHA buyers want to save by having a case number assigned before the April 18th increase in the mortgage insurance premium. Many of the first time buyers will use FHA for the low 3.5% minimum cash requirement.

Life is better when there are flowers to photograph!

Roy,

That's great information to know! I wasn't aware that this was even a possibility but it's something that I'll share if I work with any buyers that qualifies for an FHA loan. I reall appreciate the information!

Have a great and productive day!
