NYC Times Square for New Years - Suggestions....Prior Experience? HELP PLEASE!

By

O.K, This might be the year.....with your help!

I have wanted to experience New Years from Times Square since....?

Have'nt most of us. Last year, I made an attempt at it last year  and ended up in D.C. Instead. Glad I did but still NEED Times Square.

What stopped me last year was the issue of where to stay. Ideally, I would like to be able to experience Times Square from the street and then be able to retreat to a hotel room with a direct view of everything...the ball dropping, other people freezing to death etc. Does anyone know if there is a hotel with rooms that you would be able to see EVERYTHING happening from?

Last year we saw tickets to all sorts of events advertising the best view, great food and the sort. I saw over 50 like that and could only picture myself ending up in some strange part of town, having a Happy Meal, a can of warm beer and watching all of the happenings from a black and white TV in the corner....I can do that from home.

I need some insight and information, help and suggestions from all of you folks in NYC!...or someone who is in the know or has had the ultimate experience there.

I would greatly appreciate everyones input. I am certain that others would also appreciate some input. Heck, we could all get together for the New Year.

Thanks in advance!

I strongly recommend the Marriott Marquis - but you will PAY for a 'ball view' room - in the neighborhood of $900 for New Years Eve or $400/night for 3 or more nights (if they aren't already sold out).

You'll definitely want a room.  The crowds are beyond crowded - it is LITERALLY so tight you LITERALLY cannot move.  Even standing out front of the Marquis and viewing the ball drop will take you long enough to get up to your room because of the crowds.

But, it's an experience you shouldn't miss.

Thank you Christina!! So quick too. Any other suggestions. I will call the hotel now and check. Last time in NY we stayed at the Four Seasons in Battery Park and, for what we wanted, it was fantastic! We went for 2 days so that my son could see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

More than just great rates
Wow.... All I have to say is you are a brave soul, that is one crazy place to be on NYE and if you are up to the crowd and the pushing then pop the cork and celebrate in NYC for NYE. Good luck with your venture.

Christopher - You should have had that booked already.  Any hotel within a 5 block radius most likely will be sold out - at least anything with a view.  You should book now for 2020!

I live 15-20 minutes away and I would not go to Time Square on NYE if my life depended on it.  Uggg - too cold, too crowd and too loud.

Good luck and let me know if you get a room..

Appreciate the tip....Still rooms available at the Marriott! I just cant seem to plan that far in advance...Too much of a last minute kind of person when it comes to travel! We are heading to Japan next week for a trip that we booked last month. We ran across a great deal and....couldnt pass it up! Our 6 year old son, who loves to travel, had made the suggestion a couple of months ago. When we saw the deal on airfare...Just had to make his day. Travel is the only way that I can seem to truly separate from real estate.

Everyones suggestions and comments are GREATLY appreciated.
