The revitalized downtown historic district has character. Some of the restored buildings date to the early 1800's. There are restaurants, from upscale seafood to pizza and Mexican food. There are several shops, including boutiques, antiques, Ice cream, art galleries and an outdoor provisions store. The Halle Cultural Arts center in downtown Apex is restored to it's former theater glory. They have performing arts shows and visual art studios and shows. The chamber of commerce is in a rehabbed train depot, once the highest point on the Old Chatham Railroad. There is a restored old caboose for visitors to enjoy. Every winter there is a Christmas Parade and every summer an old fashioned 4th of July parade. The annual Peak Fest is fun for all with arts, food, performers and kids activities.
Apex does have a change of seasons, but our winter's are short. We enjoy an early spring, snow in the winter, changing leaves in the fall and a hot summer. Local climate allows gardeners to grow great southern plants like gardenias and magnolias. It's the best of both worlds.
Original historic homes surround the historic downtown area and newer developments spread out from there. There are several neighborhoods to choose from in this community with styles and amenities to please everyone.
