Shortly after 911 happened, 70 new Border Patrol, Customs, Immigration employees signed on for duty for the port of entry, border crossing in Houlton Maine.
Suddenly 55 new kids in our local schools in Houlton Maine where I list and sell ME real estate.
And when you consider port of entries from Canada in Jackman, Calais, Fort Fairfield, Fort Kent And Madawaska areas, plus airports and along the Maine coastline, you do the math.
Very tragic 911 happened but the response cause major changes to how port of entries are administered. Now beefing up the borders from Canada to Maine has meant lots of good paying government jobs, new work facilities, vehicles that need servicing.
And more workers means more upper and middle management government level jobs. Plus the increase to assure no loose ends for the crime element to migrate through a less protected border means increases in hires seem like a regular event, on going news.
The reception to new hires to Maine from the US Border Patrol, Customs, Immigration employees and their families has been a warm perception. Over and over I hear how much house the agents can buy for so little.
And that Maine schools create so great an environment for their kid's education and childhood.
Warm, friendly, down to earth people and no crime, no traffic communities with lots of outdoor recreation all around these families all four seasons.
The addition of all these talents parents, kids and the extra volunteers for local Maine events is something the local population appreciates too. The schools get to hire more teachers, local merchants hear the store cash register ring more each day.

I wished 911 never happened but it seems the tighter border crossings and further intelligence plus added enforcement means US Border Patrol, Immigration And Customs personnel will continue to be migrating to Northern Maine.
