Harford County School Board of Education approved the comprehensive elementary redistricting plan that will move nearly 2,000 children to new schools this coming school year of 2011-12

The board approved the measure that will take effect in 2011. Did you know that 17,524 elementary students attend Harford County Public Schools? of them, 11% are set to be redistricted from their current elementary school to a different one.

The original proposal was to move nearly 3,000 students but that has since been changed. The goal of the redistricting plan were to establish an attendance area for Red Pump Elementary School in Harford County Maryland set to open the fall of 2011. This move was to relieve some of the capacity issues at Youth's Benefit Elementary School in Fallston and Fountain Green Elementary which are both in excess of 100 percent capacity. The plan also takes 117 students from Bel Air, 170 from Forest Lakes, 170 from Hickory and 198 from Homestead Wakefield to the new elementary school.
