Phone Carriers Offering Free Calls & Texts to Japan
Many carriers, including Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Comcast, Cox, MetroPCS, Time Warner Cable, T-Mobile, ChatTime (iphone app) and others have announced that calls and/or texts to Japan will be free on their services. Most are through the end of March, some until early to mid-April. In some cases the calls and/or texts are free, in some cases there will be credits for the calls and there may be limits on the length of the calls. Some apply to landlines or VOIP lines and some only to wireless. Please check with your provider for details.
Please only make calls to Japan if you have the need to track down or communicate with loved ones there, as the infrastructure in Japan has been compromised due to these disasters. Texting will often get through when individuals cannot be reached on the phone.
Verizon FIOS on channel 1770 and ATT&T U-Verse on channel 3680 are providing free access to Japan TV. We have also seen in the news that DishNetwork is providing free access to Japan TV as well.
