Don't Just Sit There - Hunt!

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." --- Will Rogers

Everything I need to know about Real Estate I'm learning from my friend's cat. If I want some business, I have to go on the prowl and hunt for it. It is my food. It pays my bills. It clothes me. It satisfies my many cravings that I need to survive. Everything I have and everything I hope to have is the direct result of the hunt.

Cats are born to hunt. I am learning to hunt both physically and mentally. Hunting means survival. In the animal kingdom, it's eat or be eaten. In the Real Estate business it's eat or be eaten alive by other Realtors who have mastered the art of the hunt.

This cat has taught me that my competition is in the shadow, it creeps up behind me. I have to pay attention and read between the lines. Stay focused. If I just sit there thinking I'm on the right track that's when I'll get run over.

Cats need to be stimulated or they get bored. I need to stay stimulated and focused on business. The cat keeps their eyes open and watches, intently watches every move and it pays attention. The cat is analytical, it hits its mark it doesn't roll over and play dead like a dog. A cat shows no fear. The cat may occasionally move slowly, but it's still moving, calculating its every move with precision and accuracy.

I refuse to just sit there. I will not play dead. I am a real estate agent. I am a hunter. I will survive.

Ron,

I came from Northern Illinois where the White Tail Deer was admired by animal lovers, such as myself, who wouldn't dare harm a deer. The hunter, on the other hand, had a different philosphy about the necessity to hunt, especially November or December because if he didn't hunt, the deer would multiple and starve during the bitter cold winters. Plus road kill was a real problem for drivers.

Of course the men back then when I was in Illinois had other options, and like many men here in Texas, they loved their steak and potatoes. But when their fathers, and their predecessors hunted, it was for the purpose of food and survival - very similar to what we are going through in our business today, wouldn't you agree?

What I admired most, was the skill of the hunter who was always prepared to make an instant decision. He had to be quick on his feet to identify a buck quickly. There was no room for error and he couldn't take chances, at least I would hope not.

Anyways, I thank you for your comments and it would be interesting to hear what other hunters have to say. I really appreciate you making that comment Ron because it made me think. I would love to hear more!

Yvonne,

That statement you made could almost be your branding for your marketing materials - I love it!

What a great statement! I am glad that you shared it and I wish you a good hunt!

Gloria,

I agree completely about the learning process. Isn't it sad that I spent a fortune on my school tuition only to learn the most valuable lesson of all from a CAT!

That gives me an idea, perhaps some pets should be allowed to go to school with the student... or perhaps humans need more than just textbooks, lectures and computers. Thanks to Sylvia, I'm still learning!

Thanks Gloria for stimulating my imagination! Have a great productive year!

Rosalie,

Sylvia wasn't always so nice, but she's getting there. I babysat her when she was just a kitten several months ago, and to put it nicely, she was a very wild cat, completely independent and a mild form of aggression about her individual needs and wants right from the get go! She was in all honesty - FEARLESS! She made my time with her challenging and very interesting.

She's grown now and she is a very nice cat but she still has a distinct attitude and shows no fear. I am willing to bet that she would survive being an outdoor cat very easily. This may sound nuts, but I'm looking forward to spending more time with her so that I can get some ADVANCED education from her! Too bad I couldn't get a MCE credit...shucks, I think it qualifies!

It's so nice to hear your thoughts Rosalie and I wish you all the best!

Evelyn,

I'm happy to know that the general consensus is that people like my analogy. That's how my brain works and I often wonder how I'm perceived. It's great to hear from so many wonderful people here on the Rain! It makes me feeling like singing!

Thanks Evelyn. All the best to you!

Hella,

That a great thought, "the animal kingdom can't put things into their freezer for a rainy day, but we can. We need to keep hunting even when we are not hungry NOW."

Hunting gives me a reason for Hope that my business will survive and that I'll be okay. Your statement strengthens my belief.

Thanks Hella for being an inspiration to me. May you never go hungry!

Hi Sharon,

Almost immediately, you were the very first one to respond to my post and you said so many nice things about me. And then you came back to congratulate me with flowers too. That was very nice of you. Sharon, can you imagine what would happen if there was an episode of kindness through out the world?

I'm beginning to believe it can be possible via a network of very smart ActiveRainers such as yourself. As for me, I am still learning, and it's great to know there are others who contribute their own thoughts and ideas by leaving comments. We all have so much to give and with trust and integrity from people who are all working for the greater good, I think it is possible.

You're a very smart lady and a very good AR friend. Thank you Sharon - may life be one of positive changes for you with a bright and happy future.

Your friend,

Patricia

Kevin,

You're right! Anyone waiting for business to fall in their laps is no different than the child waiting for the tooth fairy, Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. This is the real world and it's a jungle out there.

Thank you for your great comment and may you never go hungry and always come out on top!

Linda,

Thanks Linda for your complimentary comments. I am honored to be featured and it's truly a wonderful feeling to hear from people like you who have also been a strong force that lights the way for me too!

If we don't do our part, we're just daydreaming and that can get you killed! The animal instinct is a good one and it's not an option because a free lunch, if it does happen, is just a tease and doesn't last. It takes action and a lot of courage to perform well enough to survive. Man does not live on faith alone - they have to do their part.

I really appreciate all your posts too and I wish you continued success with a good investment in return and may you always come out on top!

Another lesson ... take time once in awhile to just relax and enjoy the sun.

John,

In Sylvia's photo, she is definitely relaxing and enjoying the sun - that's a great life lesson. Although her body appears to be at rest, her eyes are wide open, ready for opportunity.

Thank you for that observation. In pondering your thoughts, I came up with my own original quote that works for me: Fall asleep when there is opportunity - be prepared to accept whatever lies in the shadow ---Patricia Feager

Thanks John for the additional life lesson learned from the cat. May you always be observant for opportunities. I wish you all the best!

I dunno, Patricia!  The squirrels in my neighborhood hunt.  But my cats have figured out how to get me to hunt for them!  That's why they are getting soft and fat!  But I do like your idea!

Hi Patricia,

Hmmmm..... that's interesting about your cats. Are they couch potatoes? That might explain their condition.

But I do agree with you that squirrels hunt on a daily basis and they stay physically and mentally in shape!

All the best to you!
