Inspiration or Perspiration?

Is a work out effective if you don't sweat? This is a question I begin to ponder after walking for two hours and not breaking a sweat. I wanted to know if their were others who couldn't get into the soaked tee's club: so I Google the question, " why don't I sweat when I work out?"

After going through several Google pages (I know, unheard of right?) the consensus seems to be split between two opinions. First, you don't need to sweat to have an effective workout. Second, you could be dehydrated, see a doctor.

For a split second I panic. Oh my God! I have to see a doctor, I'm severely dehydrated. Hey, wait a minute I drink plenty of water. Plenty. But it couldn't be the second opinion, could it? Then it hits me like a ton of bricks; my workout is too easy. It's not intense, heck it's not even moderate. Wait! Maybe I'm just one of those people who don't sweat.

Eventually I give up on the excuses and pop in a 40 minute step aerobics DVD. Bam! Sweet perspiration.

Thank you. I won't melt away completely, just shed some of the winter coat.

Sarah, you need to come walk in North Carolina. I guarantee you, if you walk 2 hours here you will sweat!

Hi Sarah, it isn't very much fun admitting that my work out is too easy.  I think I'd prefer to think that I just don't sweat.    Fun post... Have fun with your workouts.

Clark, some people will argue that I should be sweating in California. lol

I will have to look into the infrared sauna, sounds promising. Thanks Yvonne.

Sondra, it never is easy admitting my (dare I say it) lack of zeal.

Sarah, your blog just instantly caught my eye...I have that same problem!  I can even work out hard and still just be "damp".  You see people that just drip all over the treadmill, etc. and I've never done that in my life.  A southern saying was "men sweat and ladies 'glow'!  We are just ladies!!!

Eileen, I hadn't heard that saying before, but its shaping up to be one of my favorites.

When I lived in Arizona, I did not "Sweat".   But I was still losing body fluid; it was just evaporating in the low humidity high temperature climate.  Maybe the same is happening to you in CA.

Join me in Central Florida this summer, Sarah.  We will go for a walk.

Be assured, you will sweat Buckets of water in the 90% humidity.  If you want to make certain, take a hot shower and drink several large coffees before we set out.   You will be drenched in your own sweat.  :)

From the sounds of it Fred, a two hour walk seems out of the question. I guess they don't call it the "Sunshine State" for nothing.

Sarah - my mom had that problem; she never did sweat so I guess some folks don't.
