Phones in the Life of a Realtor

This morning I got out of bed and started to do my first thing routine, which is put on the coffee, when my phone started ringing incessantly. As if they weren't satisfied, my cell phone started buzzing as well,  Time is now 6:30am.  I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON.

Nest thing I knew both the lender and title company were telling me not to leave for closing as there was going to be a delay.  Oh well, just another typical day, right?  NOT

Because I knew things would get hectic with the sellers on this deal as they had the moving van loaded and ready to go, I finally got on the coffee and dashed to the shower.  I turned on the water and put in a toe.  OMG, I think the water must have been piped directly from you guys up in Alaska and New York.  Ice crystals were starting to form on the shower head!

I thought in my still sleepy stupor, "This must be a mistabke'.  So I dashed to the lavatory and turned on the hot knob.  ....    Same more ice crystals.  I dashed downstairs to the electric panel and checked the circuit breakers.  All in place and no thrown circuits.  Where's that coffee?   Going to need a lot to get thru this morning!  So I threw my robe back on and dashed to the kitchen and poured a cup of HOT coffee.   Well at least some appliances were working.  Ring.   Ring.  Ring .   Ring   Ring.  My sellers must have gotten word by now.  I glanced a the clock.  It was now 7:00am and I knew if I answered that phone I would never get dressed; so I dashed back upstairs and threw on my clothes (no shower).

Moving woesWith company phone in one hand and cell in the other, I began searching for plumbers.  My seller crying on the other line, but other than offer a few sighs with them, there wasn't much to say; so I placed them on hold and dialed the plumber.  I got a page....closing is back on for 2pm....and the plumber answered and said "I can be ther at 11am, please be sure the path to your hot water heater is unobstructed."  I almost dropped both phones.  Unobstructed?  That hot water heater is at the very back of the attic and there are 15 years of junk stored between it and the door.  so I franticlaly rush to the attic to begin the unobstructing process.  why did I tell my son he can store his piano until he returns from infantry airborne?  It's now 8am.

I only have 3 hours to, clear the attic, meet the plumber, read the HUD (which title company just didn't have time to do until this morning),

Something is wrong with this picture.  It's my sellers who are suppose to be moving this morning, not me!

The plumber arrives.  Did I mention that I am wipped out from moving boxes and other stuff?  Here in Louisiana everyone comes to the closing and we all sit around the table and exchange pleasant conversation (at least some of the time).  I am hot and sweaty, and no water to shower!  Oh well, back to the bathroom where I throw on lots of deodorant and cologne and rush for my departure to the title office.  Luckily, the plumber is a friend of the family so I can leave!  It's now 1;30 and I am a 45 minute drive from the title office.  I'll have to call and tell them I'll be a few minutes late.  No one would ever believe it if I told them the truth!

They say all is well that ends well.  The contract closed.  The seller left in the moving van.  The buyers have a new home.  And I am back at home ready to fall into bed.  Still no hot water until a new hot water tank arrives tomorrow.

A day in the life indeed.  Sounds like you will take an extra long shower when you get a working water heater tomorrow!  It is almost the weekend, hang in there!

Hi Ann,

Hate those impromptu moments of utter chaos.  You sure were up to the task!  We also had our HWH go on the fritz just days ago.  Sure makes us appreciate our modern conveniences.

Don't we live a charmed life?  People think that our job is so easy, yet, they have no idea how we hold everything, together.  Great job!  Now, take a well deserved nap!
