Rust-oleum Countertop Transformation; Is it worth the cost?

By
Home Stager with Abella Home Staging & Redesign

Rust-oleum countertop transformation, is it worth the cost and time? Not too long ago I wrote a blog about Rust-oleum cabinet transformation. Now they have a countertop transformation. As a home stager and redesigner, there are many homeowners out there that have outdated countertop but can't afford to replace them. This may be the solution they're looking for. And it's relatively easy to use.

  1. First you prep the countertops by sanding them down.
  2. Apply the adhesive base coat.
  3. Spread decorative color chips
  4. Sand & smooth decorative chip.
  5. Apply protective top coat.

It come in five different colors:

  1. Onyx
  2. Charcoal
  3. Java Stone
  4. Desert sand
  5. Pebbled Ivory

Rust-oleum countertop transformation, is it worth the cost?

Here are the cons:
  1. It is pricey,it retails for $249.
  2. It's messy.
  3. It only comes in the speckled look
  4. It only comes in a gloss finish.
  5. Has a very high odor factor.
Here are the pros:
  1. Easy to use.
  2. It will update your counter.
  3. It's durable
  4. It has nice colors to choose from.
  5. 100% guarantee.

As you can see from these pictures it has a dramatic effect. And totally changes the look of the kitchen. There are a few step to take, but in the end I think it's a great solution to updating your countertop. Especially homeowner who are looking to sell their home and don't want to spend a lot of money. This is one solution they can consider. What do you think? Rust-oleum countertop transformation, is it worth it?

Hi Carmela--I have looked into this product numerous times and recommended it to sellers.  On each occasion they have opted to actually spend the money and replace the counter tops, so I have never gotten to see the end results.  The photos look fantastic and its nice to know you have had actual experience with it and would recommend it.

Hi Carmela! A definite improvement.... before, that kitchen looks DARK and dreary.... with the new paint colors for cabinets and walls, with the countertop treatment.... a light and welcoming kitchen. Great work and thanks for introducing this product to me....

Janet, i too have recommended this product to my clients. But they have opted for other solutions as well. I do not have experience with it, I just really like what it can deliver.

Great post. Rustoleum also makes a countertop paint that's only $20 and you roll on two coats and done. Not as durable of course, but less work less money.  I've put it on a sample CT, but have not installed in house.I was pleased with look. Lots of colors.

Anyone tried it?

Did that size kitchen take more than one kit?  This would be a good option if one kit would cover an kitchen with a good sized bar.

Thanks for the review!

Corren, I believe the kit tells you how much the square footage it will cover. I Believe it covers a big size kitchen.
