So there are definately days in this business where you will undoubtedly ask yourself what you are doing and why you don't get a "real job"
I know because I talk to agents and lenders all the time and they all tell me they've done it. Even though its normal to question things during rough times I think its also important to remember that people with "real jobs" do the same thing. I worked for a bottling company in Oregon years ago and I remember doing it then, questioning why I was there, when I would find out what I wanted to really do, etc. In fact I don't think there is a profession out there that is immune to the "why am I here" thought process. Everyone goes through changes, and tough times.
I think its even more so in the case of an industry that it constantly under scrutiny. Lets face it, real estate and lending couldn't be scrutinized much more than it has been the last 3-4 years. This of course means that politics are now involved more than ever, and everyone (whether they have industry experience or not) feels that they know exactly what to do to fix it. New guidelines, new disclosures, new licensing, etc. are all continuing to change making it harder and harder to do what we do. I was talking to my wife over the weekend about how frustrating a lot of it is, and she simply told me "either roll with the changes, or do something else!"
The truth is we have "real jobs" no matter what anyone from the outside thinks. If you are not in the office 40+ hours a week, you probably aren't making any money these days. In fact I have never seen agents and lenders working harder than they are right now. Everyone is grinding it out to get the next deal, to make new contacts, and build new relationships. Those who adapt quickly will survive and those who don't wont. Its that simple!
I hope that those reading this will be survivors, and that you will encourage others to be survivors as well. This is a great industry and we provide an extremely valuable service to our clients. It's time that we all believe it!
