Smartphone iPhone or Droid - Verizon or At&T - carrier choices change in Buckhead Atlanta, GA

After reviewing about one-half of the Labs available for modifying Gmail, let's shift our focus again to the great smartphone debate - iPhone4 or Motorola DROID

The basic question is - which platform do you prefer - the "i" or the android?

Cell phonePeople using MAC computers most likely will gravitate to the iPhone4 -- ease of data transfer for them.  My preference is DROID not the iPhone4 for the same reason -- I am immersed in the Google technology!  Ease of transfer and ease of use are my guides.  My "NEW" Motorola DROID A855. (Nicknamed Droid 1).

ASIDE: I got a "used" Motorola DROID and signed up with Verizon, my cell phone provider, for an unlimited monthly plan.   I prefer to see the limits and not "hope for the best" in keeping track of usage.  Learned that lesson 5 years ago when the youngest of our five children ran up a $235. text message bill in one month.  Who thought a 9th grader would sent over a 1000 in one month?  She was not happy about having to pay for that herself. Took her a while to finish paying! The we switched to a plan that is more than we use as a family but less than it would cost if anyone went over the next lower limit.  Those extra minutes mount up fast! I was still deciding whether to go with the "i" or the android. I didn't want to be stuck with the "wrong" technology for a two year period.  Since I didn't get a new phone, my contract didn't renew either.

Smartphone iPhone or Droid - Verizon or AT&T - carrier choices change in Buckhead Atlanta, GA.As AT&T buys T-Mobile, consumers now limited to the choice of Verizon, AT&T, Sprint or MetroPCS.  Go to GIZMODO for more detailed info on the shrinking provider options

Basically, although a disputed comment, AT&T had been using T-Mobile towers to supplement its relays.  Now AT&T will own T-Mobileand the number of carriers will be reduced again.  The merger was announced with great detail

Bottom line? Smartphone iPhone or Droid - Verizon or At&T - carrier choices change in Buckhead Atlanta, GA and I am still happy with what I have - Verizon and the Android phone.

Have a happy day -
Lynn

Lynn:

I have an iPhone with Verizon.  Verizon is the best carrier in my area.  I have never been able to master the Droid.  I do love my iPhone and can do a lot of things with it.  So my choice is iphone with Verizon.  Works for me.

Hello Lynn and believe it or not VB likes a simple regular cell phone, unlimited text & phone calls ... no Internet on my phone! But my laptop computers, a MAC in one hand and a PC in the other ... ;o)

Good morning, Lynn. While I am a MAC guy, I don't have an i*** tattooed on either cheek. I have been comparing the new Droid with the iPhone 4 and am seriously leaning towards the new Droid 4G. There seems to be an issue with battery life right now. I do like the Droid apps and I think that the Droid platform will soon overtake the iPhone. I hope they got the "butt call" issue resolved on the newer phones. I wish they had an app for that...

Dear Evelyn,

Thanks for the visit!

It is so interesting about this techie stuff - sometimes it is just what one is used to using, isn't it?  I couldn't get the iPhone!!

Dear Bob,

Please give VB a message for me:
I had to use my former regular cell phone yesterday and BOY OH BOY - I like it so much better in my hand than the smartphone!  It was an LG Voyager (good name for you "51" folks) and it had a keyboard and worked so well for such a long time!  Now I found out you can even get internet on it!

Actually bought it used on Craig's list since it isn't made any more - using it yesterday reminded me how much I loved it!

Have a happy day -

Dear Karen -

I feel so special that you keep coming by!
Yes, the
Blackberry is amazing!  It is the only thing that worked during the 9/11 crisis - did you know that?

Have a happy day -

Dear Michael,

Always great to see you here.

You wondered: I hope they got the "butt call" issue resolved on the newer phones. I wish they had an app for that...

I am checking into that -- what phone do you have now?  I know how to solve that problem, also known as "pocket dialing" on some brands of telephones.

I'll get in touch soon as I check out the 'secret' method for the Droid 4G.  Mine is the old Droid 1.

Have a happy day -
Lynn
