Things to do Arvada: Kite Festival

Arvada kite festivalThe Arvada Kite Festival is something I look forward every year, but I missed it last year.  There's always so much going on around here!

There was not much wind to speak of for the 2009 Kite Festival, but right now the wind is blowing like crazy. So if it does that this Saturday, April 9, it will be a fantastic day for kites!

The 2011 Kite Festival will be held on Saturday, April 9 from 10 am to 4 pm (rain date is April 16), at Robby Ferrufino Park (74th & Carr).

There are contests for highest kite, most visually appealing kite, smallest kite, and largest kite. There will be fancy kite flying, dancing to music or performing acrobatics.

Of course, there'll be jumping castle, face painting, lots of booths too.  And the Jeffco Brass Band will perform at noon.

For more info, click 9th Annual Kite Festival.

In the meantime, take a kite building class!

Kite building classes are:

March 26, 2011-Majestic View Nature Center-11:00-12:00 and 1:00-2:00 / Call 720-898-7405

March 31, 2011-Susan Duncan YMCA-4:30-5:30 / Call 303-503-5267

April 1, 2011-Susan Duncan YMCA-3:30-4:30 / Call 303-503-5267

April 2, 2011-Majestic View Nature Center-11:00-12:00 and 1:00-2:00 / Call 720-898-7405

There will be a special time at the kite festival for these children to fly the kites they have made.

It's a beautiful sight, it's fun, and they have lots of good food too.  Bring a blanket or some chairs and hang out awhile. Better yet, bring a kite and get in on the fun.

The only problem is, this is the same day for the Colorado Tartan Day Festival. Will have to do both, somehow!
