Red Oak Texas is a small town 20 minutes South of downtown Dallas. Previously a farm community it currently offers affordable housing with a country feel if that is what you like and we also have subdivsions if that is your choice.
It is true that as we drive down the road in the county which is just about 5 minutes from I35 we do see cows and homes on large parcels of land. It is what I have become used to and is home.
Our town is currently awaiting the ground breaking for Wal-Mart scheduled to open sometime next year. This is really big as we currently have one grocery store and only a few restaurants. The Wal-Mart should pull in other businesses to our town.
I moved to Southern Dallas County in 1990 and then on to Red Oak (Northern Ellis County) in 1998. We have lived in 3 differnt homes in this area, 2 times in the county and one time in a subdivision. We currently live in an older home on 7.5 acres. The great thing is that I go home to the country, but can get to my office in about 5 minutes which is located right off of our main road Ovilla.
As time has passed surrounding towns have grown and have developed new business, so at this time for shopping and dining we generally travel to Waxahachie, Cedar Hill or Arlington. There are a lot of choices for dining, movies and shopping in these other cities and Waxahachie and Cedar Hill are very close.
We hope to attract business to our area shortly and it seems as though we are on that path. It is exciting to watch a town grow and to see families coming here for the different type of lifestyle that differs quite a bit from living in a bigger city.
