GETTING OUT OF THE BOX TO GET HOMES SOLD

If you don't do Open Houses anyway - go ahead and skip this post. If you are one of those people who are always looking for innovative ways to get homes sold, though, you might want to consider this idea.

This Sunday, March 27th, 2011 my partner and I will join with four other Realtors (all different companies) who are banning together to do an all-community Open House in the gated community of Parkridge Estates in Orange, California.

Sharing the workload (and the cost), we have a full-page open house ad coming out in the LA Times and each of us is using our own advertising venues to get the word out for all. We are chipping in for a drawing ($100. Nordstrom's Gift Card) and participants must have visited all four houses to enter.

"Out of the Box" may be a trite phrase, but having just finished Jeff Jarvis' "What Would Google Do?", I am jazzed about the opportunity to cooperate with "competitors" with the Seller's needs in mind.

This post might be premature. It will definitely play better when I can let you in on the RESULTS. Check back - more to come.

If I am behind the times and you have already tried this approach, let me know how yours turned out.

It sounds like a great idea. I'm anxious to hear how it goes for you. Best of Luck!

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the comment - reporting back. The additional advertising and cooperation did bring in additional prospective buyers. (It also increased the competition since two "expireds" made the decision to re-list right before the weekend and one of them was open and able to benefit, as well.)

Keeping in mind that the whole idea was to gain more exposure for the Sellers, we would have to label the day a success. Have to be honest, though, there were some "glitches". Not sure that I can recommend this approach more than to say that it is always worthwhile to try something new.
