I just read the fabulous book by Wayne Rogers, Make Your Own Rules. He has a great point for realtors especially.
He maintains that throughout his business career he has been involved in business ventures in which he had no, absolutely none, experience. He believes, as I do, that that alone brings a fresh nature to whatever the undertaking is.
Here is a little sample that I picked up from his interview on ABC News.
Wayne Rogers: 'Make Your Own Rules'
I have also tried to avoid being part of the system, which is not the same thing as trying to change it. You don't have to be "against the system" to succeed; you just don't want the system to systematize you, as it were. You don't always have to be a rebel, but, at the same time, you don't want the system to turn you into an automaton. The goal is to maintain your individuality while functioning within the system.
If you have been a realtor for any length of time, you more than likely started out at one of the big boxes where they "trained" you at your own expense and then set you loose to make money for them. Sadly, many realtors, after the first year are really set loose because the company figures you have used up your sphere.
Then the tough either really get going, or they quit. I would suggest that reading this book will give you a fresh perspective to your own business whether in real estate or not.
I believe that this a great book for any entrepenuer, either as a birthday gift, or if you can wait that long, holiday present.
Check it out at the library possibly. And, if you would like to share your thoughts on the book, feel free to comment.
