First recorded history of Bay Colony dates back to the Spanish expedition of 1570.  Back then there was an inlet recorded on a map that came directly from the Atlantic Ocean into Crystal Lake, cutting  through Bay Colony. That inlet has long since closed; Indians fired upon early settlers from the sand dune hills along the shores of Crystal Lake and what is now First Landing State Park.

Rich in history, Bay Colony neighborhood of Virginia Beach remained largely undeveloped until the 1950’s.  Sparse few homes were built in the 1930’s but most of what is visible now, were homes and lots developed in the 50’s and 60’s.
