Debbie, I too had an older client who got taken, i believe, by one of those advertised great pricing carpet companies...they don't tell you about all the add-ons ...she too felt pressured & didn't want to wait for me to find an alternative...You are an excellent resource for your area!
Debbie - You provided a great service for that lady. I find it amazing that different carpet companies can be called in for an estimate, and they will be off by several square yards after measuring. There can also be a big difference on cost for the same carpet, pat and installation.
Debbie - I think I know exactly which carpet your talking about, but here's a clue: Did ET phone home - tell me am I right? I used them once and they didn't glue the carpet right and within a month my vacuum started sucking it up. They did however, come replace it, but the thing was a real pain in the butt! Nice that you not only help this woman with the right carpet, but she saved money in the process!
Debbie - Yes, it is. Oh, and I didn't even think of that.
Ginny - Yes, it's really not right to tell customers the price is only good for 1 day. Many customers are suspicious of this, and they should be.
Jay - Yes, there is...but I think the owners might have switched.
Myrl - Yes, there are many different reasons the price can differ, including whether there is the same amount of material. Carpeting is tricky as there are different ways to lay it/seam i and different width rolls. I sometimes give my customers 2 options so they can choose if they rather do w/ more carpet/less seams or save money.
Kristine - I'm sure you know which company I'm talking about, but I'm not going to mention them here. Not sure I remember them in ET since it's been a while on that one. Sorry abt your experience. Use mark Woodward next time. He'll take care of you and he's also very reasonably priced.

Great job! Just because they can advertise on TV, doesn't mean that they are reputable!
We recently got quotes from three window companies, one was local and the other two had advertised heavily on TV. We went with the local, they were the fairest price!
Michele - yes, often the local ones are less expensive. Those w/ large advertising budgets need to raise their price to support their TV ads. Also, as you've blogged about before, it's better to help your local economy.
The image has me taking my shoes and socks off, feeling the rich saxony deep pile carpet and saying ahhhhh, like the Calgon commercials pleading to take me a way.
Debbie -- that customer was lucky that someone referred her to you! You took the time to find the right product and to make sure it coordinated with her furnishings, and even more importantly you listened to her and responded with kindness. The "other guy" obviously couldn't care less. Your customer service and competitive pricing will win every time!
