According to Remodeling magazine's 2010-2011 Cost vs. Value report homeowners recovered about 60% of remodeling costs in 2010 which was down from the previous year. Construction costs were also down. 
The top 10 projects that recouped the most were:
1. replacement of the entry door
2. replacement of the garage door
3. replacement of old siding
4. addition of a wooden deck
5. minor kitchen remodeling
6. replacement of old windows
7. remodeling of an attic bedroom
8. remodeling of a basement space
