The weekend of April 1-3 will be a car lover's weekend since there are two major car shows taking place.

The first is the La Jolla Motor Car Classic, which used to take place in January. This year, they changed to the first weekend in April, which clashes now with the Goodguys Del Mar Nationals, which has always been the first weekend in April.

Most of the cars in the La Jolla Motor Car Classic come right out of local garages. It's always neat to see local cars that you just might see on a street around town. This years show has more than 150 entries in 30 classes, with German cars being the featured group this year.

Guests at the La Jolla Motor Car Classic include Keith Martin, CEO and founder of Sports Car Market magazine, and Tom Cotter, author of various books about car discoveries in barns throughout America.

Cotter will be at the La Jolla Historical Society, 7846 Eads Avenue, on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. to sign copies of his books, and several show cars will be on display from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The main show will be at the Ellen Scripps Browning Park, 1180 Coast Boulevard, above La Jolla Cove:

Just up the road from La Jolla, the Goodguys Del Mar Nationals will take place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds:

There will be thousands of vehicles, 1972 and older, at the show, and you will probably have to put up with lots of color and loud pipes not only at the show, but on North County streets and highways as well.

The Goodguys Del Mar Nationals is typically the largest auto show in San Diego County. Along with all the cars, there are many seminars, vendors, manufacturer exhibits, a swap meet, cars-for-sale, and even an autocross. Arrive early at this one!
