Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter Florida... The Perfect Way to Welcome in Spring!

Roger Dean Stadium

Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida is the perfect way to welcome in Spring.   I have to admit I played hooky today with my husband and took in a Spring Training game between the Florida Marlins and the NY Mets.   If you've never been to one of these games and if you're anywhere near Florida or Arizona, give yourself a treat and take in a game. (Hurry... the "real" season begins March 31).

It's an excellent opportunity for true baseball fans (young and old) to see their team up close and personal.  Many of these fans arrive early, baseball gloves in hand waiting for a chance to see, take pictures of, and even speak to one of their favorite players.  Today, I saw a son proudly tell his father of his conversation with one of the coaches.  Dressed in orange and blue, he carried a bag full of baseball souvenirs.  His father had that smile only a father could have seeing his son share his love of the game.  BTW- this father-son pair were about 65 and 35 respectively!

Roger Dean Stadium is about 35 minutes north of Delray Beach and just off I-95.  It is surrounded by Abacoa, a neo-traditional planned community which also includes Florida Atlantic University's MacArthur Campus.  It is ideal for the person who wants where they live, work and play to be within walking distance of each other.   I heard one patron say he'd driven over in his golf cart!

But back to the game, it's fun seeing the fans, and I'd bet a good number of them are actually fans of whoever the visiting team is.

But the real fun comes in seeing families with their children,
introducing them to this Summer sport
... and seeing more seasoned fans reliving their youth,
the days when they sat next to their own fathers
and learned about what we call America's sport.

Barbara- Tell Rocky we're all waiting to see what happens with football this year, but I wish he could have been to the game with us.  Perfect weather!

Kristine- It is so nice there.  You can look out and see palm trees and next to it are part of the "downtown" area of Abacoa.  We try to go once a year.

Thinking outside the box

I have attended games at both RD stadium in Jupiter and Tradition stadium in Port St. Lucie and always had an enjoyable day.

P.S. And I'm not a big fan of baseball...however , being there in person is always fun as opposed to watching a game on TV

Toni- It was a perfect day and gets you in the mood for our summer sport!

Kristin- That's good to know.  I'd bet some of the attendance at the Marlins' spring training games would rival the regular season!

Bob- I totally agree with you.  I'm not a big baseball fan either but any game for most any sport is always more fun if you're there in person!!! I didn't know they had minor league games there.

Taking the day off is a good thing  and yet you had your camera with you.

You are one smart lady.

With all this cold weather, here, I forgot that the crack of the bat would be sounding soon.

Hi Kathy~ I'm a baseball junkie especially when it comes to my Colorado Rockies.  We didn't make it to any Spring Training games (that's on my bucket list).  We will go to at least 6 regular season games.  We already have our tickets in hand!  :-)

Virginia- I can't believe that there was snow on opening day.  You need to get down here next year for spring training!!!

Donna- Good for you!  We used to have mini-season tickets to the Astros and it was fun just heading out after work to take in a game.  Enjoy the season!!!
