OH THANK HEAVEN FOR ROAD CONGESTION!!!

While sitting in traffic in Flower Mound off of Spinks Road and 2499 yesterday afternoon, I noticed my surroundings; after all, I had enough time to take up knitting! But I'm not patient enough for doing that, and I felt the need to keep moving. So I parked the car and started walking.

I left my car in the parking lot of Shadow Ridge School and I took notice of the earth beneath my feet and the quieter things in nature that takes their time to wake up after a winter's nap. The ground is dry, we need some rain, but the surrounding beauty gave me reason to pause...

I felt the warm gentle breezes of 85 degree temperatures in Flower Mound and green things were blowing in the wind.

The roadside looks so different when you are on foot and away from the cars that look like they are sitting on conveyor belts instead of driving. Here, I was lucky enough to see something that, ordinarily I would have missed, if I was just sitting there in my car, waiting for the traffic to move. Instead of pumping the breaks, my knees felt to the ground to show reference to this lovely and beautiful wild flower. It was just as happy as it could be and it made me smile for awhile...

In the short distance I saw something and immediately, I thought of an ActiveRain Blogger and friend, Rob Thomas from TN. If you know Rob, you'll understand why I got excited when I saw this old barn. The funny thing is, I've lived in Flower Mound for more than thirteen years and never noticed it before. So Rob, these are for you:

571

Oh thank Heaven! I finally found a constructive way to pass the time while there's road congestion. In sum, time passes quickly when you're having fun!

Patricia those old abandoned barns and stalls are amazing to find and I agree you really spent your time well. Slowing down you do see so much. Your camera caught it all.

Don,

Ooooh, my ears started burning when I read your comments! There's a lot to tell from that old barn and farmland - a rare sight in Flower Mound! Thanks for the compliment! I had fun. Thanks for stopping by! It's always nice to know what you're thinking.

Hi Gary,

I had a much better day when I decided to pull over and not choose to stay in traffic that wasn't going anywhere. I had fun taking myself for a walk! What a day! It was nice to soak up the land that hasn't been touched by developers!

Sharon,

That's so true! We often think that everything we really need to make us happy in life costs money - not true! Nature provides some of the richest assets here on earth. All we have to do is stop the insanity of what we consistently keep doing.

For me, I found it in the stillness of the day in congessed traffic. When everyone else was driving on the conveyor belts, getting stressed with their knuckles tightly clenching the wheels, I decided, I wasn't going to take it anymore and I did something about it. For me, it unleashed my soul!

As always, it's so nice to hear from you Sharon and I wish you a lovely day. Get out and have fun!

Steve,

What a difference a block makes. Have you ever noticed on television whenever they show those congested roads, all the other side roads don't look like that! I'm glad I finally had the courage to get out of the rat race and do my own thing because it was worth it!

Thanks for the compliment on the photos. I really appreciate hearing that from you because your photos are always extraordinary and I appreciate all that you contribute to make ActiveRain a success for all.
