Does Confidence Matter? It's All Downhill From Here.

Mothers will be horrified, no doubt.  Mine would have been.

There's not much difference between confidence and utter lunacy... except from the kid's perspective. Let's give him a name.  Mikey!

Confidence shows in his stance, the set of his shoulders and arms, and in the initial direction of the skateboard.

If your palms get sweaty just looking at this, it's because you're focused on the potential danger--something you've learned to avoid through long practice.  Mikey's not thinking about any of that.

You may see a disaster waiting to happen.  Mikey sees success in his mind's eye, and he's excited about it.  Wouldn't you be?

Now, let's change the picture.  Let the road be a metaphor for your local real estate market.  The boy can be you, your client or your business.  It doesn't matter.  The reality, and the necessity to deal with it successfully, is in front of you.  It won't go away.

What will you do?  Are you confident in your ability and your sales skills?  Use them!  The opportunity is there for the ride of a lifetime.  Of course, you could just pick up your skateboard and walk carefully down the hill...  I wouldn't.  I don't think you will, either.

And that's the real estate opinion of this Tucson Mortgage lender.

Mike,

Nice post! Unfortunately, I have been programmed to look for, spot, and remedy trouble before it occurs! The life of a 'title guy'!  Thanks,   Fran

Matthew -- But all else being equal, I'd rather not fall into the ocean -- it looks rather deep at that point.  <s>

But, hey, Mikey wanted this to be a metaphor of the real estate market ... ~My~ version of relating the post to the real estate market would be to ask ... "Where is that located?" (Something tells me it is not Tucson.) And look at all those homes lining the street!  Or are they condos or townhouses?  What's the average asking price for one of those?  How many of them are on the market?  Where is the parking for each unit?  Do they have boat docks?"

Mike-my stomach got sick just staring at the downward slope of this child rearing up to go.  Once I got past that, is what I do is check out the surroundings so that I'm familiar with what is at the end of the road, once I've got a little familiar, then I stand with confidence and jump in all the way.  I need to know a little, to do a lot and then end up knowing a lot more to do even a whole lot more.

Mike:  That's not Mikey, that's my son!!!  How did you get his picture?  LOL  It's just like something he would, that's for sure.  I have confidence, but I also have a sense of danger.  This is a little too confident for me but it really is a great analogy.

Mike,

In my childhood, I used to do stunts like this all the time, and I am still here.  Yes maybe a have a few more scars and some funny stories to share, but I survived.  The correlation to today's market is perfect.

Thanks for the post, I get it.

Whoa!  I've been away most of the day, and have some catching up to do.  Thanks so much for your comments!

Cheryl, I wish I had an after picture.  I don't, though.  And like a skier going downhill, the skateboarder can slow to nearly a crawl by steering left, then right, then left, etc.  I don't think Mikey ended up in the drink.

Kris, I'm with you on the protective pads.

Fran, you're a new face.  Welcome.  You'll see me commenting on your posts soon.

Matthew, I understand your point.  A partner once told me that "experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted to get."  We collect a few bruises along the way.

Cheryl, back again!  It's certainly not Tucson.  May I sell you a home on San Francisco bay?

Julie, thanks for commenting.  Straight down would be suicidal.  And this, I'm pretty certain, isn't Mikey's first attempt on this slope.

Gaylen, another new face.  Look for me soon.  Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Donna, thanks for sending me your son's picture LOL!

Linda, you a tomboy?  I don't believe it!

Candy, don't cringe.  See my first comment above to Cheryl.

Gary, I'd like to read some of your survival stories on your blog.  See you soon.  Thanks for commenting.

Dan, thanks for rating my post!  I appreciate you.

Mike - What a wonderful visual and verbal picture!  Gave this one a big five.  Sure made me think. Let's say Mikey's goal was to take a dive from the pier and land as far into the ocean as possible.  Mikey thought about the vehicles available to him and took action.  Hmmm.

  • Identify goal
  • Explore options
  • Take action.

Works for me!

Mike nice post. All I can say after seeing that picture I want to jump on the skateboard, and ride it down the hill, or should I say take that bull by the horn

Marlene, your bullet points are my marching orders this week, and bear repeating:

  • Identify goal

  • Take action.

Thanks for visiting and commenting, Marlene!

Eric, your comments are always so encouraging!  Thank you.  Come back soon.

Lisa, post a pic of you on a skateboard!  Thanks for commenting.

Dan, thanks for your comment!  I have a picture of the bull who caught the matador with the horn, so to speak, but that's another post.

Go, Team Nathan!  Thanks for visiting and commenting.  Have an awesome week!

That's one frightening view...  there's a cross somewhere between courage and sanity.  Perhaps the little fellow in the picture is blind and some evil person hasn't told him the whole truth...
