Fort San Juan de Ulúa - Mexico #2

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Venture Realty International

Fort San Juan de Ulúa has been attacked by the British, the Dutch, the French and even the United States while it has been protecting Veracruz, Mexico. The port here is the oldest and largest in Mexico with a fantastic history.

Fort San Juan de Ulúa can be reached by boat or a bridge from downtown Veracruz.  The Fort with its museum is well worth the time and small admission fee. As is the case with most museums and historical sites in Mexico, it is closed on Mondays.

Gary, when I was growing up as a kid, my father introduced me to appreciate history and historical places all over Europe and the US, so I appreciate your pictures.  I have never been there yet.Thank you for sharing with us.

Hi Gary,

Amazing architectural features. I love your shot going up the steps, one of my favorites to take as well. The fort has proudly withstood many assaults with grace and dignity.

Thanks for sharing!

See you in the rain...

Endre, You were lucky to grow up appreciating history and historical places - so was I.  If you ever get a chance, there are many places right next door in Latin America and in Canada.

Judi,  Thank you.  Steps are always fun to look at and to try to get photos -- but, I have to take a lot of photos to get the ones that I like. Hope the rest of your weekend is great.

Peter & Linda,  I'm glad you liked the photos and information on the Fort.  I was also surprised when I learned about the Dutch attack.  There is so much information on the roles of the Spanish, the French and the English that we forget the roles played by important explorers from Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Japan, Poland and Iceland in the Americas.  I may have found the topic for some future posts. And you might want to talk about some of the surprising explorers involved with Canada.
