Do you dream of Gruene TX?

I love Gruene TX.  Tanya Tucker may have said it best when she sang, "When I die, I may not go to Heaven.  I don't know if they let cowboys in.  If they don't, just let me go to Texas.  Texas is as close as I've been."  I have to wonder if she was singing about Gruene.

Imagine a place that harkins back to a time when the dance hall was where everyone went to see and be seen.  It was the center of the community. It's where children fell asleep beneath the wooden benches to the rhythm of boots dancing across the bending wood floors.   A place where even to this day, you can have a good old-fashioned gospel service in the very spot where you went honky tonkin' the night before.  This is a place where you can still get an ice cream at the general store or a chicken fried steak in a cotton gin overlooking the rapids of the Guadalupe River. This is the place where I love to be in the streets early in the morning when no one else is around.  I look at the buildings and old Gruene Hall, that, with the exception of a recent paint job, looks almost the same as it did a hundred years ago.  I walk down the hill to the Guadalupe and look over the bridge at the beauty of those white rapids flowing over the rocks in the river. I love to imagine that I lived in Texas in 1880. My memories of Gruene TX play out much like these. I love this place.

While it once was all but a ghost town, today the Historic District of Gruene, in the city of New Braunfels TX, is a very popular vacation destination. It also has a booming real estate market.  In the past two years several new developments have popped up, including the newest, The Vineyard at Gruene by Namken.  Located just 350 yards from Gruene Hall, this neighborhood offers garden homes, townhomes and estate homes up to 3,500 square feet.  Across the street, Gruene Leaf on the Guadalupe subdivision features homes from 1,900 to 4,500 with some riverfront properties. In addition, there is the established Cypress Rapids subdivision, Cotton Crossing, and the luxurious condos at The Village at Gruene overlooking the Guadalupe River.  Just outside of Gruene are numerous other communities in the city of New Braunfels.

Now, let me ask you again:  Do you dream of  Gruene?  It just feels like home, you know?

Hi Laurie,

How did you know?

Every night I wake up.

I was dreaming again.

Dreaming of what?

Gruene, Texas, of course...

Phil
