2011 Federal Election Issues - This Needs To Be An Issue

Let me rephrase that

USAGE BASED BILLING REALLY NEEDS TO BE AN ELECTION ISSUE

Like me you may not have heard about this but any one in the real estate industry who utilizes the web needs to learn about this in a big hurry as it will drastically affect your bottom line. From your own personal use for promoting your listings to consumers who view your web promotions this will affect them all.

Please Watch the entire video it's your pocket book they are attempting to empty out

Please reblog this everywhere to ensure it does become an election issue

Barrie,

I'm not quite sure how significant an issue this is overall. What do you thionk?

Any cost estimates?

Brian - there is a lot more to it than simple costs check out the other implications in the video (a local ISP was just bought out by a major Telecom company whose rates are already much higher than the local one)

cost estimates would vary significantly from person to person, it all depends on your usage

Did you watch the video? - maximum in Ontario 25GB after that up to $5 per GB surcharge - even at $1 per GB it does not take long to add up.

How many MB is your average Virtual Tour - How many does the average home buyer look at in a month - How many people will pay to watch them after they reach their 25GB threshold

This should be a big issue. Once average people have to start paying a lot more for internet usage, then control of the net will start to be turned over to those with larger pocketbooks. The day when a small fellow with a limited budget can make a huge splash on the net will soon come to an end.

Barry, I think we could all see this coming and with streaming and movies on line, it was sure to come.

I think we may see different types of billing depending on usage, (not time) but type.

Good post

Ty

Malcolm - we need to spread the word, I was told it has already been approved by the CRTC and it will take political involvement to get it reversed. Now (election time) is the time to push it

Ty - seeing it is one thing now is the time to do something

Are these not the same guys who did a major campaign to avoid paying the tv networks for using their feeds on cable. They want all this for free and then charge us an arm and a leg!!!
