This weekend, during the Lake Charles Free to Breathe race/walk dedicated to Mary and Ed Thompson, I had time to reflect on my friendship with an exceptional person, friend, and real estate agent, Mary Thompson.
Bo Huddle, Mary's best friend at Bono, and I walked together and talked about the many, many attributes of this marvelous and fun lady who, along with husband Ed, lost her life to lung cancer.
My first dealing with Mary Thompson was as a competitor. Before we became fellow CENTURY 21 agents with CENTURY 21 Mike D. Bono, we closed several transactions. From those transactions, grew a friendship that I will always treasure.
She was so funny! I would get a phone call from her and the conversation would go something like this:
Mary: "Tony, What in the hell are you doing!?"
Me (laughing because Mary always made me laugh): "I'm showing homes in South Lake Charles. What are you doing?"
Mary: "Great, your're close by. I'm pulling weeds. When you finish, come over and help me pull weeds and drink a few beers."
Me: "Keep em cold, Girl! Be there soon!"
So, we'd drink a few beers and Mary, aided by her breathing machine, would talk about life and the importance of "living good" as we pulled weeds. She loved her children and was so very proud of them. And, the prospect of a grandchild made her smile that gorgeous smile. She was so proud of her kids and grand baby.
Besides my conversation with Bo, the highlight of the walk for me was to see that grand baby today.
Me: "Hey Mary, thanks for reminding me of the importance of "living good!"
And to the local Free to Breathe group that hosts this annual event to raise research funds to deal with this dreaded disease, a heartfelt Thank You!
