Power of Words

Just read a great post about Social Media and the possibility of hurting confidentiality in a real estate transaction. The saying "what you say can come back to haunt you" is definitely true. Idle words, sarcasm, gossip, and rude comments will at some point bite you. If not bite you, can hurt your brand.

Many years ago, I worked for an awesome company where I had the opportunity to build a positive brand. Some of the individuals I worked with at the time I did not have a lot of respect for. I made the mistake of spouting to my family about the injustice I felt from this individual. Years have passed. I have gotten over it and have realized how much I learned from the experience. However, the other day my son, who at the time was very young while I was complaining, made the comment of how he always thought this individual was the worst person living. I have come to regret these idle words because it was not fair to this individual to have my son think so poorly of this person.

If we can keep a long term perspective instead of short-sightedness we will be happier and more productive and as a result more profitable.

Recently I have been re-reminded that the "high road" is the best way. There is a way to build your brand positively while still maintaining a proactive momentum. When in doubt always take the high road.

it's amazing how often other people misconstrue our meaning.  I guess it means we are responsible for the content AND the delivery.  I am guilty guilty guilty of this - I open mouth before engaging brain.

It's so easy to let our words slip out when we're upset.  Thanks for the lovely reminder that it's never a good idea to vent.

Ann: you are so right content AND delivery. I've been studying the fundamentals of speech lately tone, body language all contribute. Thanks for the comment!

Janet: Counting to 10... I've never been really good at that but it's a new day and opportunity to change. Thank you for reading my post and commenting!

Linda, you are so right ",THE POWER OF WORDS " it is not what you say, but how you say it. Some times "WORDS" can hurt if the wrong tone of voice is used.
