As of October 1, 2007 the Florida No-Fault insurance requirement is GONE. Every Florida driver needs to be aware that you NOW must protect yourself.
Call your car insurance agent and/or company immediately and make sure that you have "Uninsured Motorist Coverage" on your policy. Take a moment, pull out your policy and double check to make sure that you DO HAVE this coverage.
I was in an accident Labor Day 2006, and the person responsible for the accident had minimal coverage. I found out that I did not have that coverage, AND I had "waived" the coverage in 1996! I had "assumed" that I had full coverage for my car insurance and I learned the hard way that there can be many versions of what we call "full coverage". Please check your policies, your coverage, and call your insurance agent today.
As of October 1, 2007 there may be many drivers with NO insurance at all. Imagine how many drivers will be "at fault" and have no insurance covering your losses. If your own insurance coverage does not cover an "uninsured motorist" then you are without recourse with your own policy.
As Realtors, you have to protect yourself, the clients riding in your car, and your family too. This is great advice to tell everyone you know. Spread the Word!
UPDATE 10/7/07 - Our State Special Session now says this will be RE-INSTATED (in some form) in January 2008
