Anchorage- Things to DO
Ray Mala Film Festival
Ray Mala, an Inupiat Eskimo from Candle, became the first non-white actor to play a leading role in a Hollywood film in 1933 at the age of 27. He became a matinee idol after the release of Eskimo from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), the first major studio film made in Alaska. The film festival kicks off Wednesday with showings of "Igloo" and "Last of the Pagans." On Thursday there will be two showings of "Eskimo." "Igloo" shows will be free courtesy of Universal Pictures.
